Nick Moore is an artist from The Potteries, Staffordshire. Born in Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1968, he grew up surrounded by his father David Moore’s paintings and sketches, developing an early appreciation for artistic experimentation and evolving styles.
The distinctive landscape of Stoke-on-Trent and its surrounding countryside continues to influence Nick’s work. His paintings move freely between portraits of local characters, expressive landscapes and abstraction, predominantly working in oils.
After studying printing and graphics at South Manchester College, Nick spent more than 30 years working as a printer and graphic designer. In 2017, he began attending life-drawing classes while visiting his father in St Ives. Encouraged by his father’s guidance and critique, Nick embraced painting without the restrictions of formal art-school training. He immersed himself in contemporary art, visiting exhibitions and private collections both regionally and internationally.
Today, Nick is inspired by regional artists and abstraction, continually searching for an economical and expressive approach to mark-making, using as few gestures as possible to communicate his subject matter.
Nick has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, St Ives Society, St Ives Contemporary and Brampton Museum and Art Gallery. His solo exhibitions include ONE (Hanley, 2019) and FOLK (Hanley, 2023). In 2022, he was Highly Commended in the RBSA Friends Exhibition.
